Enid is our action lead, and she cannot hold a slate or sign a call sheet, so her entire deal is verbal and honored on trust. This has never once been a problem. It has occasionally been an accounting question, which Amara Boateng solves by writing “verbal” in the box and getting on with her day.

Her rider is short and we are happy to meet all of it: practical effects only, and a trailer with a latch she has promised in writing — verbally — not to test. She opens every closed door on set the instant it closes, which has ended more takes than any other single cause in our history. We adore her regardless.

Claws Out set the lot record at 411 doors. We now shoot with the doors open wherever the shot allows it, and Yuki Tanaka lights for the spill, which honestly looks better.
