Actors made of light refuse their marks, and it turns out to be the point.
The Wisps’ night musical, and the production that taught us something we probably
should have known already about lighting an actor who is themselves light.
We spent four nights chasing the troupe around their marks. On the fifth, Yuki
Tanaka stopped, set the light where the film needed it, and let the marks come to
the light instead. The schedule recovered inside a week and the film found its
subject in the same move, which we are still talking about.
The Wisps unionized mid-shoot. The union was correct and we said so. One
grievance remains outstanding and both parties describe the relationship as warm,
which it very much is.
We drifted. They kept the light on us. That's all we ask. (See attached grievance.)
